What is MCS?

Overexposure to Chemicals can cause or lead to Cancer, Immune System Failure, Asthma, Birth Defects, Memory Loss, Organ Damage, Chronic Myofascial Pain Syndrome (CMPS), and Other Health Problems. Immune System Failure can result in Multiple Chemical Sensitivities (MCS/EI), Chronic Fatigue (CFS/CFIDS/ME), Fibromylagia (FMS), and Gulf War Syndrome (GWS).
Multiple Chemical Sensitivity and other diseases caused by Chemical Overexposure may not be able to be traced back to a single chemical overexposure. This is because overexposure to chemicals may occur through a one-time exposure to a large amount of chemicals or a many-time exposure to low-levels of chemicals. There also may be other reasons the immune system failed and is now making the person sensitive to chemicals. The common ingredient in all MCS cases is S T R E S S !

MCS Sufferers react to everything manmade, that is to say, they react to everything that is petroleum-based. This includes formaldehyde from varnish on kitchen cabinets and in carpets; fragrances - perfume, glade, laundry detergent, dryer sheets (including fragrance free ones), and even aeromatherapy oils. Reactions to chemicals can occur as typical allergic reactions - hives, rash, sneezing, inability to breathe etc. And/or reactions may occur as brain numbing (inability to think), chronic fatigue, headache, and/or facial pain.
Because MCS sufferers have failed immune systems, they often also have allergic reactions to many foods, plants, and pets. MCS sufferers are highly sensitive (which is a good thing). But that means they may react to low-level EMF’s and may need to live in a world where electricity is all DC. MCS sufferers are often referred to as canaries because like the canaries used in mines, they are the first to notice the effects. (Canaries were used to warn miners of lack of oxygen. The canaries would be the first to go, giving the miners time to get out of the mine.) MCS colors are purple and yellow. Yellow is for canaries, purple is for wisdom and power.
Those at most risk of developing MCS are those with compromised/immature immune systems. This includes children. Because many pollutants mess up female hormones, women are more at risk than men. I’m not sure how hormones and the immune system are linked, they just are.
The Access board which regulates and enforces ADA recognizes MCS as a disability and promotes a fragrance free workplace. Nova Scotia has a fragrance free law.
MCS is not in your head, contrary to what your doctor may tell you.
The best treatments include avoidance and building an MCS safe house.

MCS is also referred to as Environmental Illness (EI), Ecological Illness, Total Allergy Syndrome, The 20th Century Disease, Idiopathic Environmental Intolerances, Chemical Injury, Toxic Response Syndrome, Total Environmental Allergy, Chemically-Induced Immune Dysregulation, Chemical Hypersensitivity / Supersensitivity.
